What is time anyways?

Helloooooo TV watchers,

It’s that time of year again where I remember I have this blog and think about how I should probably update it more regularly and then don't.

It's been almost a full year since my last post, but holy shit what a crazy year it's been. To recap, I'll just copy/paste from my post from March 2020 with some small edits for March 2021:

So it’s been almost two one full year since my last update.  I make no apologies, I make no excuses. A PANDEMIC HIT, I got busy at work, then I got busy in life, then I got pregnant, had a baby, and then went back to work FELL INTO THE ABYSS KNOWN AS PARENTING TWO KIDS UNDER 2 YEARS OLD (in that order).  DEAL WITH IT.

Anyways, after not having touched this blog for a year, I was interested to see if anyone was still reading it and lo and behold, yes! Much to my surprise, there are people out there somehow finding EMDB and actually reading it. So since you’re one of those people. thanks! And also, why are there so many Canadians reading this? I’d love to hear how people find this blog and what your thoughts are so please leave a comment below (keep it nice and clean or I will shutdown comments. 2021 is F’ed enough, let’s be kind to each other).

How does one recap all the TV watched over the course of 3 years (since I never did a recap last year either)…I guess I’ll just start with what I’ve watched most recently (one of the few times LIFO methodology is more appropriate than FIFO, but I digress).

Without further ado, onto the show(s):

Superheroes: I never really considered myself a major fan of the superhero genre, but then I started thinking about the shows and movies I’ve been watching and it’s like 50% MCU/DC Universe or other comic/graphic novel related content so…I guess I’m a superhero fan? I think it’s due partially to my obsessive tendency to deep dive (or rabbit hole if you prefer) into the entire mythology of a character and with the superhero genre there’s a ton to dissect. So here’s a bunch of superhero shows that aren’t exactly the traditional take on the genre

  • WandaVision (Disney+): *catchy theme song plays in head* I can’t really describe the show without spoiling anything, so I guess just trust me. Watching this one does require some previous knowledge of The Avengers movies

  • Legion: The guy from Downton Abbey meets a special lady at the psychiatric institute he’s in and chaos ensues setting him on a path of self-discovery. Aubrey Plaza plays a character that was original male in the comic books, but the writer liked her audition so much he rethought the character. That’s how you know you’re the shit.

  • Doom Patrol (HBO Max): Brendan Fraser is back! Alan Tudyk is in it! This show is super weird and dark, but great. I’ll describe it as an unlikely crew of anti-heroes who were each imbued with special powers (and physical deformations) as the result of a major traumatic event.

  • Harley Quinn (HBO Max): Alan Tudyk is in it! Wow, he’s really prolific. Since I’ve got a toddler, I’m often looking for shows we can watch together. This is not one of those. Even though this show is animated, it is NOT for kids. Here’s the very first lines of the pilot episode to give you a taste:

    From Decider

    • Opening Shot: On a yacht off the shores of Gotham, a man in a captain’s uniform goes, “My fellow whites. Let’s raise a glass to this pyramid of cash, the foundation of which was built by our favorite pastime: Fucking the poor!” Just then, a girl in a harlequin suit jumps on board with a huge mallet and says the money is hers. “Party’s over, you pieces of shit! This is my money now, so back the fuck off!”

  • The Boys (Amazon Prime): already mentioned on EMDB but listing again here since it fits with the post

  • Invincible (Amazon Prime, premiering March 26th, 2021): This show hasn’t aired yet, but from reading the description and the cast I’m very excited about it. Starring Steven Yeun as the protagonist!

    From IMDB:

    • “Mark Grayson, 17, is just like every other guy his age -- except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man; as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers his father's legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.”

Ok kids, hopefully more posts to come very soon. Thanks for hanging with me

xoxo EMDB
