Oops, I did it again

I was right! I'll start this post off with "Apologies for the delay..." Clearly I suck at writing on a regular basis, but rest assured, my TV watching prowess is stronger than my blogging diligence.

It's been two months since I last wrote so let me try to recall everything I've watched since then. There's been some surprise treats in the mix, which I'll be adding to the "What you should watch" tab because they're just too good to miss. This is going to be a long post because it's been a long time, but I'll need to add more detailed reviews later on...so stay tuned

NETFLIX

  • END OF THE F***ING WORLD (1 season): If you were unclear what a dark comedy is, watch this show. I'll be honest, I binged watched the entire series the day after my last post so it's difficult to remember the details, but I do recall it being hilarious, the writing being very dry, and the acting by the two main characters being especially great. Episodes are only 20mins, so check it out for yourself
  • EVERYTHING SUCKS! (1 season): I have a weird linkage between this show and END OF THE F***CKING WORLD solely because they both start with the letter "E" and their storylines involve high school students. That is the end of their similarities. Everything Sucks is kind of like Freaks and Geeks, but that comparison doesn't do it justice. There's a lightness to the show throughout despite dealing with some pretty heavy topics like divorce and suicide. One of the main storylines that is particularly compelling is one of the girls grappling with her homosexuality. I'm hoping the fan base will rally hard enough to get Netflix to sign on for season 2 because sadly they just recently announced they weren't renewing it.
  • ALTERED CARBON (remainder of season 1): Had to finish it out, but jeez it's dark. If I wanted to watch more of a world where the rich get richer and exploit everyone else forever I'd just turn on the evenings news. ZING
  • TRAVELERS (remainder of season 2): Finished it out, you should watch this when you're feeling in the mood for sci-fi
  • UGLY DELICIOUS (1 season): I'm getting hungry remembering this show
  • NAILED IT (1 season): I'm just going to copy/paste the Netflix summary because it says it all. "Home bakers with a terrible track record take a crack at re-creating edible masterpieces for a $10000 prize. It's part reality contest, part hot mess." I laughed harder at parts of this show than I've ever laughed before.
  • TERRACE HOUSE: OPENING NEW DOORS (1 season): If you haven't gotten onto the the TH bandwagon I don't know what you're doing with your life. This is the newest series in the Terrace House franchise (not sure franchise is the best term for it. what is it? the terrace house universe? terrace house oeuvre? whatever) The location and the house is beautiful and the drama is seriously low-key. Just the way I like it.
  • HYORI'S BED AND BREAKFAST (First season on Netflix, season 2 airing new episodes weekly): I "stumbled upon" this show because because Netflix kept trying to incept me to watch it since I liked Terrace House so much. It's a Korean reality TV show that's filmed Terrace House/Big Brother style and it's about Hyori Lee (who is a former, mega K-Pop star) and her husband Sang-Soon (also a famous Korean musician) and them opening their home on the picturesque Jeju Island as a....you guessed it...bed and breakfast. For the non K-Pop fans reading, think if Britney Spears opened her house up as a BNB and you showed up and Ariana Grande was the staff member doing the dishes and making you coffee
  • POH AND CO (2 seasons): After having binged every available episode of Hyori's, my "running a small business" fascination could not be quelled so I checked out Poh and Co. This is also a reality show, but set in Adelaide, Australia and focuses on a Chinese-Malaysian-Australian woman named Poh who's an artist and a cook/baker and is trying to overhaul her yard into an edible garden while also expanding her farmer's market bake stand into a full fledged business. Her cackling laughter can be a bit jarring at times, but overall very entertaining and all her recipes look delicious
  • WILD WILD COUNTRY (limited series): Sex cult, but not? American dream, but not? Watch this series and question how you think about core American tenets like freedom of religion, voting rights, and colonization

  • THE AMERICANS (seasons 2-5, season 6 now airing!): This show is so. damn. good. So many disguises. Some of the best acting ever in a TV series by Kerri Russell and Matthew Rhys. Oh ya, and they ended up getting married after working together on the show. That's hawt.
  • MOZART IN THE JUNGLE (season 4):
  • THE SOPRANOS (watched seasons 1-4, all 6 seasons available): I watched this when the series originally aired, but it's totally worth a re-watch and definitely a must watch if you haven't already seen it

HULU (mostly repeat watching of classics, only listed new viewing below)

  • LA TO VEGAS: This show started out pretty self contained on the airplane of a budget airline (Jackpot = Spirit Airlines) and the flight crew on the...you guessed it...LA to Vegas route and their regular passengers. The characters are bizarre and well acted, and I didn't know Dylan McDermott could be so funny.
  • ALONE TOGETHER: These people are SO weird!! A lot of the dialogue is totally out of left field so the laughs will catch you off guard.
  • AP BIO: Just like how The Mick is like if Sweet Dee from "Always Sunny" was raising rich kids, this is like if Dennis from "Always Sunny" went and taught...you guessed it...AP Bio. This show is not very good, but I still watched a few episodes and it's got some decent lines
  • FUTURE MAN: I've only watched a couple episodes of this show and I need to watch more because it's really good so far. I'll save any review until I watch further
